The Quinter High School boys basketball team took on the Wheatland-Grinnell Thunderhawks during the Gove County Showdown on Tuesday, February 5 in Grainfield. The varsity boys fell short of the win in a tough battle, losing 50-56. The junior varsity team won 36-34.

The varsity game started out allowing Wheatland/Grinnell a 16-9 lead. In the second quarter Wheatland/Grinnell extended their lead making the score 33-23 before half. In the third quarter Quinter outscored Wheatland/Grinnell 16-9. The Bulldogs tied the game near the end of the fourth quarter, but after getting into some foul trouble were unable to come away with the victory. Conner Havlas led the Bulldogs in scoring with 21 points. Kasen Ostmeyer led the team with five assists.

“We weren't ready to play and came flat. But we made a comeback in the second half but fell short of the win,” added freshman Kyler Johnson.

Due to low numbers the JV boys only played three quarters. In the second quarter of the JV game Quinter got off to a big 23-8 lead. In the third quarter Quinter was outscored 3-12 by the Thunderhawks making the score 26-20. Ostmeyer led the JV with 13 points followed by Collin Thielen with seven.

The men's basketball team is back in action on Thursday, February 14 in a makeup game against the Golden Plains Bulldogs. Games start at 6:30 p.m.
