QJH Finishes Season at NWKL Meet

The Quinter Junior High track team competed in the Northwest Kansas League Meet in Tribune on Friday, May 12.  Several students earned League Titles.  Overall, the eighth grade boys finished fifth, the seventh grade boys finished sixth, the eighth grade girls finished sixth, and the seventh grade girls finished fifth.

    For the eighth grade boys’ running events, Tucker Gillespie took fourth in the 400 meter dash in 1:02.66.  Evan Roberts brought home second place in the 800 meter run (2:46.14).  Clark Wolf finished the 3200 meter run in 13:14.93 for second place.  The 4x100 meter relay of Tanner Charles, Wolf, Carson Selensky, and Roberts finished third in 58.79.  The 4x200 meter relay of Roberts, Wolf, Collin Thielen, and Collin Blackwill finished second in 2:04.01.  In field events, Tucker Gillespie finished sixth in the shot put (31’2”).  Tucker Gillespie also finished fourth in discus (100’10”) followed closely behind by Harlan Obioha in fifth (96’6”).  Roberts took fifth in pole vault after clearing 6’0”.  Tucker Gillespie jumped 15’3.25” for a fourth place finish in long jump.  Thielen finished sixth in the triple jump with a jump of 28’4”.

    For the seventh grade boys’ running events, Keegan Haldeman took third in the 100 meter hurdles in 20.55.  The 4x100 meter relay of Haldeman, Gus Bridges, Brady Albin, and Kyler Johnson finished fifth in 1:04.67.  The 4x200 meter relay of Haldeman, Eli Gruenbacher, Ryan Ludowese, and Johnson finished fourth in 2:13.02.  In the field events, Johnson won pole vault and the League Title after clearing 7’0”.  Albin took third in shot put (29’7”) and sixth in discus (65’10”).  Ludowese finished in sixth in pole vault with 5’6”.  In triple jump, Gruenbacher placed second with a jump of 28’10”.

    “It felt awesome that a season’s worth of work paid off at the perfect time,” commented Johnson.

    In the eighth grade girls’ running events, Millie Brown finished the 400 meter dash in 1:11.35 to take fifth place. Addie Briggs finished in fifth in the 800 meter run in 3:10.63.  In field events, Kayler Getz took home the League Title in shot put (32’10.5”) and Brown won the title in long jump (13’7”).  Getz also won second place in the discus with a throw of 75’11”.  In high jump, Brown placed fourth with a jump of 4’4”.  Brown finished in fourth in the triple jump as well with a jump of 26’10.75”.  

    Ava Gillespie led off for the seventh grade girls’ running events by bringing home two League Titles in the 100 meter hurdles (18.58) and 200 meter hurdles (33.65).  She was also a part of the League Champion 4x200 meter relay along with Jadelyn Betz, Aliah Miller, and Julie Rummel who finished in 2:10.53.  Betz finished behind Ava Gillespie in the 100 meter hurdles in fourth place with a time of 21.02.  The girls’ 4x100 meter relay consisting of Elizabeth Dickman, Evie Deaton, Jessa Borger, and Miller took fifth in 1:10.68.  The 4x400 meter relay of Borger, Deaton, Dominga Perez-Perez, and Dickman came in third in 6:13.47.  

    In the seventh grade field events, Miller placed fourth in shot put (29’1”) and fifth in discus (59’11”).  Betz placed fifth in high jump after clearing 3’8”, followed closely behind by Borger in sixth after clearing 3’6”.  Ava Gillespie finished fourth in pole vault after clearing a height of 5’6”.
